How to Find a Rental in Limerick: Choose Your Campus or Work Anchor

HomeScout Team12 October 2026

Do not start a Limerick search by treating every campus and workplace as one destination. UL's Castletroy routine, TUS Moylish and hospital work in Dooradoyle lead to different shortlists. Name the site you need, then compare individual homes and the routes between them.

Decide what you can pay before choosing areas

Set a monthly rent ceiling that leaves room for utilities, transport, food and other regular spending. If sharing, agree what each person can afford and how you will divide bills. Keep the move-in budget separate: payments in the written offer, travel, temporary accommodation and any overlap with your present home.

Compare live offers within the same category. A room in a home, a student residence bedroom and an entire apartment can have different inclusions and payment schedules. Ask what each price buys and whether it is weekly, monthly or for a longer booking period. An attractive headline figure is not enough to judge affordability.

Use three different local starting points

For University of Limerick, build the search around your actual campus buildings in Castletroy. Start by comparing homes that suit that routine, then test city-centre alternatives. A university place name can cover a wider journey than the walk to a particular lecture or laboratory.

For TUS Moylish, use the official campus address and information. It is a different destination from UL. Confirm the campus for your course before enquiring about a room advertised for 'Limerick students'; a general student label cannot establish the right route.

For University Hospital Limerick, HIQA lists its address in Dooradoyle. Compare Dooradoyle or Raheen addresses with your specific workplace entrance and shift schedule. A city-centre home can remain an option, but the early start and late finish need their own checks.

If your job is in Shannon or another location outside the city, treat that as a separate commuter question. Do not assume a Limerick rental or a bus passing through the centre connects to your workplace at the required times. None of these starting points is a ranking of area safety, quality or current rent.

Use the accommodation service for your institution

UL's off-campus accommodation service includes student-facing options such as rooms, houses and apartments and provides advice. The service advises inspection before committing; appearing on a listing service is not a substitute for assessing suitability yourself.

TUS students can check the students' union accommodation resource and their institution's current advice. Confirm eligibility, vacancies and terms directly. Do not assume a UL booking process, deadline or room offer also applies to TUS.

For an academic-year search, ask about weekends, summer, placements and the exact start and end dates. If an international course begins before you can move into a verified home, make a temporary arrival plan rather than paying an unverified private offer under time pressure.

Establish what a room arrangement means

Ask who owns or manages the home, who lives there and who signs the agreement. In an owner-occupied arrangement, clarify meals, kitchen access, guests, household rules, notice and whether the room is available seven days a week. Ask for written terms; do not assume every room offer is a standard apartment tenancy. RTB guidance is the starting point for tenancy questions.

For a whole apartment or house, confirm permitted occupants, furniture, heating, laundry, broadband and any parking. View the space where you will study or work. A nominal extra bedroom may not solve the household's need for a quiet desk or storage.

Test the route without inventing commute minutes

Use TFI's Limerick city network map and TFI Live to check exact-address journeys. Plan both directions for the times you need, including weekends or shifts. Look at walking sections, transfers and the last usable service.

For an out-of-city workplace, consult TFI's commuter and local service information and the current timetable. Include the final trip from the stop to the workplace entrance. A route linking two towns does not guarantee access to every employment site between them.

Compare a home you can actually use

Consider a planning example: a UL student and a person working in Dooradoyle are searching together. A campus-focused home helps one journey; another home may offer a better balance. Test both routes and the shared budget instead of selecting a midpoint on a map. This example does not represent a real listing or measured commute.

In your enquiry, give the occupants, destination, dates and agreement length you need. Verify the advertiser and current offer before sharing sensitive evidence or money. If moving internationally, use the renting from abroad guide to prepare those checks.
